Scientific Computation on Quantum Computers

Zhixin (Jack) Song
Advisor: Prof. Spencer Bryngelson

ABSTRACT

Quantum computing has garnered significant attention for its potential to deliver super-polynomial speedups and energy savings. Numerous quantum algorithms have been developed for applications in chemistry, material science, fluid simulation, and other scientific computing tasks. This talk will provide a concise overview of recent advancements in these fields, along with progress in quantum computing hardware. I will also explore the challenges that remain as we work toward achieving utility-scale quantum computing.

BIO

Zhixin (Jack) Song is a 4th-year Ph.D. student working with Dr. Spencer Bryngelson. He earned his bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University in 2019 and has previously interned at Baidu Research and JPMorgan Chase. His current research focuses on quantum algorithms for fluid simulation, solving differential equations, and quantum compiler design.
